before I blow your cover
Why am I updating? No reason really. There is another quote from boxing that I find funny...but I will have to change some names to make it ungooglable. OH! Also! I am probably going to change my blog over to something a little more private soon. I know some of my readers (mom) don't have blogging accounts, so I'm soliciting advice on a good way to do this. Wordpress has a good option of having a password for each entry. Any other readers want to weigh in?
Here is the quote. My name is Carrie Davis. The gym is called "R. Laud's Boxing Gym."
Gym Owner: Davis! ....Carrie!
Me: Richar....what should I call you?
Owner: Mmm...you can call me whatever you wa--
Me: Can I call you Dr. Laud?
Owner: No.
Oh, another solicitation for your help: I think I'm going to have an hour-long show dedicated to the works of Stephin Merritt. That is, all his incarnations. What should I play? If you recommend one I don't have, I might request that you send me a copy... And that reminds me to let you know that my new radio time slot is 1-2am Friday night/Saturday mornings, central time. I LOVE this new time slot. But I will miss my old cohost, so I might still show up to keep her company for the Wednesday 5-7am slot, minus the music prep and volunteer hours.

And all of a sudden, you wash out
Like a soft, sudden, summer rain
It rained in the late afternoon.
It yielded me nothing. All is dark. All is silent. All is humid.

Friday night 1-2am central
You peer inside yourself
You take the things you like
And try to love the things you took
And then you take that love you made
And stick it into some
Someone else's heart
Pumping someone else's blood
And walking arm in arm
You hope it don't get harmed
But even if it does
You'll just do it all again
Well, I wasn't going to do a radio show. I really wasn't. But I got a great time slot for the next semester, and it's just an hour, so it'll be a lot less work. Which is great. So I'm taking it.

it greets me every morning.
jk/lol, it's Xander and Ladybird that greet me every morning, with affection that is far from loneliness. And this morning, DJ Laura greeted me, surprising me by keeping me company for my show. So sweet, and good to see her!
The show went ok, but the DJ after me didn't show up, so I was a little later than usual for work. Luckily someone else showed up, so that was a relief.
Someone called in and asked me to have lunch with him some time. That was kind of weird, and kind of flattering. I did say no, though. Then I second guessed it, but Laura said if it was fate that we go out, then I would have said yes. True.

last days of radio
Now the trouble is over, everybody got paid
Everybody is happy, they are glad that they came
Then you go to the place where you've finally found
You can look at yourself sleep the clock around
Back from the sleep clinic (I took a 2 hour nap upon my return, for good measure; I dreamed Ladybird had put Xander in her belly, and later, there were three cats, and one of them was green). I have gum in my hair from all the electrodes they used to measure the brainwaves. If anyone is interested in hearing more details about what a sleep study entails, please send me an email or leave a comment or something.
I have the first of three 5am shows tomorrow (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday). They might be my last real shows, so I'm making them of my very favorites. Kvrx.org, or you can listen on iTunes. I wish desperately I could record the show for you!
Classes start Wednesday, so I don't know what will happen then. My work schedule will change. We'll see to what extent that relieves the pressure I've felt on my sleep schedule. I think I'm just taking 1 class after all. Russian just won't work with my schedule, unfortunately. After all that work to get placed in a good year.

naptime
Nap 1 of the sleep study is over and done with. I don't even remember falling asleep, but I think I must have because they ended the nap after about 15-20 minutes, and I think they can only do that if I've gone through all my sleep cycles.
Now I'm killing time, trying to not fall asleep before the next prescribed nap.
