awesome thing: a retrospective

I forgot, I did have an awesome thing yesterday, right at the end of the day. Talking to Ruth on the phone, and she said some very nice things to me. I will still demand two awesome things from today, though.

awesome thing

Oh, I'm behind again. Yesterday's awesome thing: yesterday might not have had an Awesome Thing, now that I think about it. But I won't list all the unawesome things that happened. I'll just move on and demand that today offer up two Awesome Things.

Awesome Thing One:
Serenity is showing tonight at Central Market, and I will probably go. This will be after I go to the Russian language meetup (which, as I demand from fate, will NOT have the Mongolian in attendance) and to Breed's Hardware to buy: a timer (for my SAD lamp) and some fly paper (for my swarm of flies)
Awesome Thing Two:

awesome thing catch up

Saturday: Barton Springs and margaritas (though the combo meant I nearly passed out) with C.

Sunday: Singing in the Rain at the Paramount with S. Being adopted for father's day.

Today: Got a sweet cast for my infected finger, for free! And free tape! AND, the people I work with were called "Marxists" by no less than the governor of Texas.

awesome thing

I'm having trouble with today's awesome thing. My finger is infected. I had a weird dinner. I was tired at work. The goji berries* I got are not very tasty after all.

I guess it was nice to get to work and first thing, J had left me a book on my desk, which I will read after I listen to Wait Wait Don't Tell Me. The book? North & South.

And tomorrow will certainly have its share of awesome things, so I can hold out till then.

awesome thing

Had J and B and E over for dinner, and it went really well. And I've already mostly cleaned up from it. Mostly. The pie came out well, and I didn't use a recipe for anything at all! It was all good! B and I talked about North and South and squeeeeealed about the train station scene!

the third awesome thing (2nd today)

A perfect spa job came open today, and I applied. I doubt I'll get it, but just the thought of it makes me squeeeeeal with glee!!

The second awesome thing

I've already had today's Awesome Thing! It is North and South! It almost makes Pride and Prejudice look vapid, insipid, and other adjectives ending in "id." (I said almost)

The Awesome Things

Like saying one's prayers, I will have a new nightly habit. Instead of dwelling on how I appear to certain narcissistic assholes (I can fill in those of you wondering about my facebook status), I will now write down one awesome thing.

Today's is easy:
Me: I would like 2 cupcakes please.
Cupcake Man: Would you like 2 more?
Me: Sure.
Cupcake Man [only charges me for 2!]

things to count on

I am grateful that I have friends and family and cats who love and understand me, or if they don't quite understand me, they accept me. If I meet a person that's not true of, well, then, I do truly believe it is their loss. Because I have really awesome friends, and I can't believe they're all mistaken in liking me.

Most of the time, this is how I feel. The rest of the time, I'm lying in bed crying to Xander and telling him my Saddest Stories.

Oh, I can also count on this video to cheer me up:

Karma police, I've given all I can, its not enough
I've given all I can, but we're still on the payroll
This is what you get, this is what you get

I might have overused the SAD lamp because now I can't sleep. Panic attack notwithstanding. I have to get up for the radio show in 2 hours, and then put in a full day's work.

I didn't get a dog, and it's looking like it might be difficult to get one with my work schedule. I am not sure what to do about that, except deal.

Starting to calm down a little, though still shaky. Will rest for a couple of hours.

fullescence

got a SAD lamp today from Craigslist. Finding items on CL is better than finding boys.

My goal is to pay my bills tomorrow. To go to yoga. And to finish a cursory lit review for my research.

artemis

What if I got a greyhound and named her Artemis? Would that be offensive to the goddess? Would I not be able to pretend *I* am Artemis with my company of wild beasts if I did that? I just like the idea so much. A sweet lop-eared Artemis.

holy crap!!

I'm working with a lot of statistics at my job. Every once in a while, some of them make my jaw drop.

I don't know why I haven't felt like updating lately. I had a really good visit home. I only gained 5 pounds this time! I got to see L and K and some others, went to a post-wedding dinner, and I really like everyone in New Orleans. My brother and I played Full Auto, which we discovered at the bottom of a drawer. It was basically a racing a game where you shoot the other cars. That's pretty logical.

Today was my first day at work. It went very well. I like my boss. The coworkers seem passionate about what they do, and were slightly devastated when their bill wasn't passed in the last day of (state congressional) session today. Now I can be one of those LBJers that talks about "session!"

While home, I didn't read as much as I hoped I would. I did watch some movies, but not even a lot of those. Today I found out that one of my medications may cause drowsiness, which is a relief because I sleep far more than is normal.

I listened to some lectures on classical mythology, and it was really great. I highly recommend. The House of Atreus was effed. up.

I am very flattered by Sirena's award, but can't think of enough ways I'm awesome, so will decline the tag.
